3rd - 8th School Competitive

The HYL 3rd - 6th Grade School Competitive League for the player that has prior team basketball experience, better than average skills for his/her grade level, understands the rules, is looking to play a longer season and be on a skilled team from other players within their future high school boundary.

Team Formation

School Competitive teams are formed based on player's gender, grade, and the future High School boundaries the player is zoned at attend. HYL groups together future middle school and high school teammates, further strengthening current relationships and building chemistry and cohesion that will sustain for years on the basketball court.

HYL encourages volunteer coaches to coordinate teams and request players during coaching registration.
Parents are encouraged to coordinate teams among friends and classmates and request coaches during player registration.
HYL Ambassadors work with HYL Staff, coaches and parents to form teams.
HYL will assign any players that have not been coordinated to play on a team by a coach or parent.

*ALL coordinated teams must still meet the school based High School Feeder criteria

GAMES

The 7th-8th Grade season begins November 1st and concludes January 24th.
The 3rd-6th Grade season begins November 15th and runs through February 15th.
Games are played at local Middle School gyms.
Each team will play 9 x games (7 regular season and 2 x Final Four games) during the season.
3rd-6th Grade School Competitive teams have an opportunity to play in 2 x School only tournaments during the season.

PRACTICES

Each team will be provided 1 x 1.5-hour practice a week at a local elementary school or middle school.
Practices times are dependent on the coach's availability and gym coordination and scheduling with the local school districts.

JERSEYS

To keep your costs low, High Quality reversable HYL jerseys will be issued to the coaches at the beginning of the season and turned back in by the players following the final game.

GAMES PLAY AND RULES

Games will be played on 10-foot rims
3rd - 8th Grade Girls will use 28.5 (size 6) size basketball.
3rd - 6th Grade Boys will use 28.5 (size 6) size basketball.
7th - 8th Grade Boys will use 29.5 (size 7) size basketball.
Games consist of 4 x 8-minute quarters.

Registration deadline: First come, First serve, Final deadline to register is Sept. 15th.
